Preach the gospel everywhere you go. When necessary, use words. Saint Francis
Parents are the primary educator of their child; do you as a parent always lead by example with your actions and your words? As parents you are also a role model for your child and their first teacher. Please understand that your childs job is to go to school and part of that job means that they complete all tasks that are given to them on a daily basis. It is very difficult for teachers to complete their job if the students are too tired to work in class, they do not show up on time or are not here at all, and they do not do their assignments.

Next school year the diocese will be adopting a new attendance policy, please read it carefully and if you have any questions please call the office.
Policy 406: Punctual attendance is an act of responsible stewardship by parents and students for their parishs gift of Catholic education.
Parents are to be reminded that the compulsory education law of Kansas requires students between the ages of 7 and 18 to be in school. Being absent for such reasons as vacations, sporting events, school activities where the student is not a participant, shopping, babysitting, or travel is not acceptable, and parents should not ask for their children to be excused for such reasons.
The school shall take attendance daily and maintain a record of all absences and tardiness. Parents should contact the school prior to an absence or tardy and request that their child be excused that day. The school, however, retains the right to determine which absences and tardiness will be excused, which will not, and appropriate consequences for unexcused absences. The school should try to determine the reason for any absence on the day of the absence, and keep a record of attendance until the close of the school year. When a tardy or absence is determined to be unexcused, less than full credit shall be awarded for make-up work. When a student has missed more than five sessions of any class in a semester, the student may be required to make up work after school, on Saturdays, or in an approved summer school program before credit is awarded.
When a high school student has missed more than ten sessions of any period in a semester, the school will withhold credit. Schools that operate on a block schedule may adjust these requirements with diocesan approval.
When an elementary or middle school student has missed twenty sessions of any class in a year, the school may retain the student in the same grade, unless the school, upon review, determines that another consequence is more appropriate.
There are students whose chronic health condition or other education need makes regular attendance difficult. Such needs are to be substantiated in a Health Plan or Learning Plan, and the attendance requirement may be adjusted accordingly.

At Back to School night parents that attended received their Powerschool passwords. If you were not able to come to Back to School night please stop by the office to pick up your password. Remember as a partner in your childs education, checking grades and communicating concerns to the teachers helps to build the partnership and make your child more successful in school.
Parent Teacher Conferences

Fun night is just around the corner on Saturday, October 23, 2010. On Friday September 24, 2010 the students will participate in the kick off for fun night. Students will be given their packet of tickets to sell at that time. When you sell all of your tickets you may pick up more to sell in the school office. Please remember that each family will be asked to donate three two litters of pop, a cake, three pies from eighth graders, and an hour volunteer help per child. We are always looking for new members for the Fun night committee, and we are looking for someone to be a co-chair for next year. If you are willing to be a part of Fun night please call the school office 943-0111. Thank you in advance for all your help with Fun night.

October is the month of the rosary. The students at Christ the King will be saying a rosary on Friday at 2:45, if you would like to join us please do so in the Church.
