Our lab opened in 2005 in response to the research conducted by our in-house veterinarians. This data, now on file, provides evidence that BVD-PI testing, as part of your management program, is a cost-effective tool to control the spread of the virus, as well as to give an added marketing advantage for producers to sell PI-free cattle. Many of our techniques and processes used are patent pending. In our short history, we have become not only the largest provider of ACE (Antigen Capture ELISA) testing for BVD-PI testing in the country, but also the most respected. The continual research we conduct informs not only the cattle producer, but also the USDA, veterinary publications, and other research facilities. We conduct this research to help the industry better understand the PI animal and to provide our testing clients with both management and marketing strategies.
It is the desire of Central States Testing LLC (CST) to provide our clients with the most accurate test results in the timeliest manner using the best technology and testing procedures. We want to not only be the “Pioneer in Production-Oriented BVD-PI Testing,” but also continue to be on the leading edge of production-oriented BVD-PI testing. By achieving these goals, CST can help the producer achieve several very desirable goals: improved herd health, improved performance, and possibly a distinct marketing advantage by being able to market PI-free feeder cattle, breeding stock, or dairy heifers.
A calf becomes persistently infected in the womb. Most often, they appear perfectly normal.
PI cattle shed approximately 1,000 times the number of viral particles compared to acutely infected animals, and they shed their entire lives.
PI cattle could possibly have a negative effect on up to 60% of cattle in a feedlot.
PI animals have a negative effect on overall feedlot performance and health, as well as reproductive efficiency and health in beef and dairy herds.
