Prairie Glen Townhouses is a housing cooperative established in 1970. We are in Manhattan, Kansas, 1.56 miles from the K-State campus.
We have sixty two-bedroom townhouses and forty three-bedroom townhouses. The three bedroom units offer a bath and a half. All have walk-out kitchen patio doors, a full basement with washer and dryer hookup, and unlike apartment living, each townhouse has individual yard space. You are welcome to plant some flowers!
The stove and refrigerator are furnished. Some of our units are carpeted, but many have beautiful hardwood floors.
Our rental rates currently are: $431.00 for a two bedroom unit and $496.00 for a three bedroom unit. Beginning April 1, 2010, they will be $443.00 and $509.00, respectively.
You won't find low rental rates like these any where else in Riley County! Comparison shop the rental market and you will see what we mean!
Many tenants make improvements to their townhomes. You are free to paint, wallpaper, and carpet your townhouse to your own individual taste. Some members choose to install ceiling fans, make other small improvements, do landscaping around their townhomes or have a small garden in the back. With some limitations, you are able to make your townhome your castle!
Several playground areas are provided for the kids and we also have a basketball court.

Our excellent maintenance staff provides snow removal, lawn care, and quick response to work orders. We maintain all appliances and fixtures in the townhouses at no charge to the resident. This includes the repair or replacement to the furnace, air conditioner, faucets, disposal, etc.
Pets are welcome, with a limit of one pet per townhouse. A $100 pet deposit is required. Please see Manhattan's Ordinance 6646 (Section 6-25) for a list of dangerous dogs not allowed on the property.

Many members have been here for quite a number of years, enjoying the benefits and freedom of cooperative living compared to the rising housing costs in Riley County and the de-personalization of apartment living.
To become a member you purchase the membership from the cooperative and pay the equity value in the townhouse. Please see the equity schedule for these amounts.
Our mortgage loan was subsidized through HUD, so we follow HUD guidelines for qualification to move into the cooperative. As you read through our information, you will find an Income Guideline table which will allow you to determine if your income meets the requirements. (It is a broad guideline, so be sure to check!) We also have a Tenant Selection Policy which will give you an idea of what criteria we require to qualify to move in.

We do maintain a wait list on our townhouses. Currently we are taking applications for this spring, summer, and fall availability.
